Morkie Dogs 101


This is the Morkie a tiny and adorable cross breed that will just melt your heart. First bred in the US in the 1990’s, the morkie is a mix between Yorkshire terrier and Maltese. Being a mix of two breeds, the Morkie’s look can vary and it can more resemble his Maltese side or his Yorkie side. Morkies come in a few different colors; black, gold, black and tan and white.

And did we mention they are tiny. Morkies only grow up to be eleven inches tall. They only weigh up to eight pounds but if that's too big for you, don't worry. There's also a teacup version. Morkies are the perfect dogs they love to play and be active but can easily spend the day chilling indoors instead. Morkies love humans and they will greet almost anyone with love and affection.
Remember the old saying a dog with barks don't bite. Well Morkies will never bite you but they will bark.


Morkies are very alert dogs and they will let you know when a stranger comes near so in a way they could even be great guard dogs. Morkies love attention and they are very loyal to their owners. They will follow you around anywhere. Morkies can also be a little moody and that's why it's best not to leave them alone for long periods of time. If someone in your family is allergic to dogs no worries. Morkies are hypoallergenic breeds and that comes with another huge plus; they don’t shed at all.

Morkies are hair dogs that means that their coat is more like human hair than dogs fur. Morkies are very smart and easy to train. Although body training them might be a bit of a challenge first, due to their Maltese groups but with a little hard work, a Morkie you can be a very well trained dog and learn lots of tricks.

As far as grooming, Morkies are kind of high maintenance. They require daily brushing and at least a monthly visit to the groomer. Because they have sensitive skins, it is recommended to only use high quality shampoos when bathing them.
